Jose Luis Garcia
Senior Managing Attorney
Jose Luis Garcia joined Esperanza in March 2016 as a Staff Attorney, where he represents unaccompanied minor children and adults in removal proceedings pursuing humanitarian forms of relief, including asylum, special immigrant juvenile status, protection under VAWA, and T and U Visas, as well as administering the Affordable Services Program. Prior to this, his legal focus was on family based immigration, consular processing, adjustment of status, I-601A waivers, DACA, and naturalization. Mr. Garcia received his J.D. and Certificate in International and Comparative Law from Pepperdine University School of Law, and is a member of the State Bar of California. During law school, he interned at Laura Devine Solicitors, an award-winning boutique immigration firm in London, England for two semesters, where he cemented his interest in immigration law. Prior to law school, Mr. Garcia graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Management and received his M.B.A. in Business Management: Law and Policy from La Sierra University, where he minored in Spanish. Additionally, Mr. Garcia attended CETYS Universidad in Mexico, where he participated in the International Accounting and Business Administration Exchange Program. Mr. Garcia is a native of the Calexico-Mexicali metro area situated along the California-Baja California, Mexico border. It was this dual country border lifestyle, and seeing people in his hometown try to understand and navigate a, more often than not, foreign and unwelcoming legal process that motivated him to pursue the legal field and, specifically, immigration law. In his free time, Mr. Garcia enjoys photography, traveling, baking, and introducing people to the wonders of pan dulce.
